To be honest, in the winter months, I have to work very hard to persuade myself to go outside, leaving behind the benefits of flat-screen TV, a centrally heated living area or WiFi. However getting outside is even more important than these things: improved health, by way of a stronger immune system, better sleep, and reduced stress.
Spending time outdoors can boost physical and mental health in a range of ways. You don’t have to spend hours at a time outside before those benefits kick in, either.
According to a recent study of almost 20,000 people, spending at least at least two hours in nature per week can significantly boost health and well-being. You can go for a 2-hour chunk all at once or break it up into smaller daily segments — the benefits still hold. Even without any greenery around, spending time in sunlight and fresh air may help you feel better in mind and body. Benefits of being outdoors are said to include - better breathing, improved sleep, boosted immune system, greater motivation to exercise and improved mental well being
I enjoy going for an early morning walk or run and I normally feel refreshed and ready for the challenges of the day. Even if for a short while at a leisurely pace, enjoy a walk or just sit outside and take in the air and listen to the sounds of nature
At ACT, we have just created some additional outdoor space where our customers and members can enjoy the delights of the locality. We know it will be enjoyed.
